Alleged car thief caught after getting stuck in flooded area in McCracken Co.

A Kentucky man has been arrested and is facing charges of vehicle theft and other crimes, after police found him stuck after attempting to go around a road barrier.

At approximately 10:55 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the flooded area of Said Road near the southbound “Road Closed” barricade for a vehicle that had become stuck in the ditch while attempting to go around the barricade.

Deputies found Jacob L. Bailey, 33, of Calvert City, by a white 2004 Lincoln Navigator.

Bailey said his vehicle became stuck as he attempted to go around the barricade.

He also said he did not want deputies looking through his vehicle.

Deputies checked the VIN, which showed that the vehicle had been stolen from Nashville, Tennessee.

Further investigation of Bailey and the vehicle revealed he had given deputies a false name, was unlawfully in possession of illicit drugs, paraphernalia, and prescription medications.

Bailey was also found to be in possession a Kentucky license plate that had been taken from an address in Marshall County.

Officials say Bailey may have given the erroneous personal information to hide the fact he had multiple arrest warrants from three counties and a suspended operators license.

The vehicle was seized and stored for Metropolitan Nashville PD.

Jacob L Bailey was lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail and faces charges of receiving stolen property <$10,000, possession controlled substance 1st degree 1st offense, criminal mischief, possession controlled substance 3rd degree, drug paraphernalia buy/possess, receiving stolen property <$500, operating on suspended license, giving officer false name, disregarding traffic regulations, an unrelated indictment warrant from Marshall County, an unrelated Graves County bench warrant, and an unrelated McCracken County bench warrant and criminal summons.
