DUTCHTOWN, MO (KFVS) -

The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the scene of a partially submerged vehicle on Missouri HWY-74, just east of Dutchtown.

A woman and four children were in the vehicle at the time, but they were all able to get out safely and walk to a nearby home.

Troopers say the woman attempted to drive through a flooded roadway, disregarding signs indicating the road was impassible

Cape Girardeau Fire Department water rescue was put on standby but was called off once it was clear everyone was safe.

The Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department and the Gordonville Fire Protection District also responded to the call.

First responders want to remind people to obey road signs and to not attempt to drive through heavy water over roadways.

We will have more details as they become available.
