JACOB, IL (KFVS) -

In southern Illinois one bar and grill took on a new responsibility during the current flooding that has pounded the Heartland.

Most Jacob, Illinois residents will tell you Bottoms Up Bar & Grill is the pulse of their town.

But during the recent flooding across the Heartland, it has become even more.

Their event space next door was filled with boxes, packing tools and donations.

Volunteers used the location to assist residents as the floodwaters continued to rise.

Bottoms up co-owner, Jason Thies, is happy to help.

"I'm just glad we have a place that we could do it and people can call, people can come and warm up and get something to eat, and get themselves out of the bottoms," Thies said. "We know exactly what people are going through. It's important we help get everybody out."

Thies said people have been calling it 'The Hub.'

He hadn't planned to be a dispatcher, but now the business owner is keeping track of people who need to be evacuated and where to send volunteers next.

If you would like to donate or volunteer to help with evacuations, you can call or stop by Bottoms Up Bar & Grill in Jacob.
