CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

A patrolman with the Cape Girardeau Police Department believes there is probable cause to charge Avery Centil Whitney, 24, of Cape Girardeau, with one or more criminal offenses, including a charge of allegedly making a terrorist threat.

Patrolman Bourbon said he was dispatched to Fredrick Street Manor located at 430 N. Fredricks Street on Friday, Dec. 25 after receiving a report from Tori Ann Ourth that an individual was walking on Fredricks Street carrying a red gas can.

Ourth reported she saw the individual "drinking and huffing" the gas from the can.

Ourth then said Whitney threatened to kill her and burn down the Fredrick Street Manor with the gas.

There were more than 20 residents in the manor at the time of the incident.

Whitney was arrested and remains in custody at the Cape Girardeau Sheriff's Department pending formal charges being filed.
