MASCOUTAH, IL (KFVS) -

The game must go on. The Mount Vernon girls basketball team played a game despite being stranded in floodwaters on the way to a game in Mascoutah.

Mount Vernon Schools Athletic Director Doug Creel said the girls basketball team was headed to Mascoutah for a basketball game Monday night when their bus was swept off the road by floodwaters a couple miles from the school.

The incident happened at Highway 161 at North County Road, according to KMOV.

The bus did not tip over.

In total, 18 people were rescued. No injuries were reported, according to KMOV.

The Illinois State Police, Mascoutah, Belleville, St. Clair County Special Emergency Services, New Baden EMS, O'Fallon EMS,  and Lebanon PD officials responded to the scene.

The team finally made it to the school and decided to play the game.
