Harrisburg, IL fire that left one person dead under investigation

HARRISBURG, IL (KFVS) -

The Saline County coroner said he is continuing his investigation of a house fire that left one person dead early Saturday, Dec. 26.

Officials said they responded to a report of smoke coming from a mobile home on South Granger Street at 4:44 a.m, Saturday.

Rhonda K. Uzzle, 52, of Harrisburg, was in the home at the time of the fire and was pronounced dead by Saline County Coroner Jerry Doug Watson that morning.

An autopsy was performed on Monday, Dec. 28 by Pathologist John Heidingsfelder at the White County Morgue in Carmi. Preliminary reports indicate the cause of death was caused by asphyxiation due to smoke inhalation from the fire.

The fire remains under investigation by the Saline County Coroner’s Office, as well as the Harrisburg Fire Department and the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office.

We will have more information as it becomes available.
