Paducah woman arrested after attempting to dispose of pills in front of deputies


A Paducah woman has been arrested after allegedly trying to dispose of illegal drugs while deputies were searching her home.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, deputies were investigating possible illegal drug activity on Milliken Road around 5:15 p.m. on December 26. Paula Hicks, 30, gave them permission to search her residence.

While they were searching, investigators witnessed Hicks walk outside and put a small bag in a dumpster. 

In order to retrieve it, deputies had to climb into the dumpster. They located a bag containing small white pills, identified as 100mg of Gabapentin. According to the deputies, Hicks admitted to trying to dispose of the drugs in order to avoid being caught.

It was determined by investigators that the pills were being kept in an area that was easily accessible to her 6-year-old daughter. Hicks also admitted she was in possession of a glass marijuana smoking pipe and relinquished it. 

She was arrested and charged with the following: 

Illegal Possession of Legend Drug – Class B Misdemeanor
Tampering with Physical Evidence – Class D Felony
Wanton Endangerment 2nd Degree – Class A Misdemeanor
Possession of Marijuana – Class B Misdemeanor
Drug Paraphernalia Buy/Possess – Class B Misdemeanor
