CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Hundreds of Heartland children are full this Christmas, not only with a hot lunch, but holiday cheer.

More than 400 students were expected to attend the Student Santas event in Cape Girardeau.

The event was held at Jefferson Elementary School where those in attendance got the full Christmas experience.

Santa was on hand to talk to children and take pictures with the kids.

And once the kids got to meet Saint Nick, they were able to grab a donated gift.

Founder Jennifer Icaza-Gast said the children appreciate the free event.

"This meant the world to them," Jennifer Icaza-Gast said. "They're excited, they're smiling, and that means the world to me. They've truly blessed me more than I've blessed them."

"This is what it's all about. Giving is what it's all about. We need to do whatever we can to make sure that these kids are getting fed."

Icaza-Gast said the event started after a note she received from a child - all the child wanted for Christmas was a warm meal.

All food was donated by Ryan's Steakhouse and the Isle of Capri Casino in Cape Girardeau.

Icaza-Gast is hoping to continue to spread Christmas cheer by starting up similar Student Santas events in other states.
