Stooge's restaurant gives free meals for Christmas

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) -

Unfortunately, not everyone has family to go to during the holidays, so Stooge's restaurant in Jackson decided to provide free meals for the community.

Music, food and a Christmas greeting is all the people who visited Stooges in Jackson hoped for this holiday season; and the owner Ron Cook felt it was his duty to provide it.

"I wanted to do this for the past several years, this year I planned it earlier and it all came together," Ron Cook said.

He said his hope was to reach more than just people who can't afford it.

"It wasn't just about a person being homeless and not having the money this year," he said. "My feeling is it's people sitting at home and it's not a financial thing and this would be great to include them in and here we are."

Ruth Vanzee came by to have a meal, but was so inspired she turned into a volunteer, greeting more than 200 guests.

"I've been in this place without family and alone and I know what it feels like," Vanzee said. "I would've went home and been alone and I thought why do that when I can be here greeting people hugging people and wishing them a Merry Christmas."

Cook also invited Santa who passed out gifts to children.

Cook even broke into song to spread a little extra cheer.

He said ultimately he is overwhelmed by the amount of people who came and plans to make this a tradition for years to come.
