Stooges to serve free Christmas meal

No one should spend Christmas day all by themselves.

That is why Stooges Restaurant owner Ron Cook will be opening his doors for the first time on the holiday for anyone looking for a warm meal around good people.

Cook says he saw the need in the community.

He has been amazed by the outpouring of support. Cook says his volunteer list is completely full at this point.

However, he is working to spread the word about booking reservations.

"The best thing someone can do right now for us is to just try and get the word out," Cook said. "Go to a neighbor that is living by their selves and try to persuade them to not be alone on Christmas day and come down and  join us down at stooges."

More than 100 people have already booked a reservation, but Cook hopes to serve closer to 400.

Stooges will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The meal will consist of turkey, ham, and all the fixings.

Cook said he has arranged for Santa Claus to be at the noon seating, so he encourages families with children to reserve a table for that time slot.

To book a reservation, Cook asks that you call 573-204-7187.

Cook said he is already making plans to host something similar next year.
