UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Union County, Illinois has filed a lawsuit against the State of Illinois regarding late payments by the state to the Union County government.

The suit against the director of the Illinois Department of Revenue and the Comptroller says that the county is owed money by the State according to state law, but has not received it.

Since the start of the state fiscal year in July, state officials have allegedly failed to transfer tax money collected by the state to the county.

This transfer is mandated by state law to reimburse counties for the cost of employing certain elected and appointed officials.

The verified complaint says the State maintains that the lack of a state budget has kept them from dispersing the payment, but Union County officials say they have dispersed payments from fund allocations to other organizations.

The matter is set for an initial court date of January 20, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro.
