Our look at outstanding Heartland football players continues with number 30.

Former SIU defensive lineman Sam Silas was drafted by the Boston Patriots in the 6th round in 1963.

He went on to play eight seasons in the NFL, four of them with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Silas was also named to one pro bowl team and also earned the distinguished honor of being an all-pro during his outstanding career in the National Football League.
