Our outstanding Heartland Football player for tonight is a former SIU running back.

At number 38, it's Ernie Wheelwright.

He rushed for 1.426 yards and nine touchdowns in an NFL career that spanned seven seasons.

Wheelwright started his professional career with the New York Giants in 1964. He also played with the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints.
