Alexander Co. to sell off dilapidated properties, some for less than $700

A southern Illinois county is trying to revitalize some areas in the hopes to bring more eye appeal.

From mobile homes to vacant lots, hundreds of dilapidated properties are up for sale in Alexander County.

Hoping to bring more appealing views in some areas, the county's tax agent, Joseph Meyer and Associates, said some of these properties have been tax delinquent since 2011.

The Edwardsville company states the county will be selling more than 360 real estate items and 67 mobile homes in an attempt to get them cleaned up and more tax money coming in.

"It's just one more avenue to try and get delinquent property back into somebody's hands that's going to take care of it and pay the tax each year," Whitney Strohmeyer, president of Joseph Meyer & Associates, said.

There is a minimum bid for real estate items is $640. For mobile homes, the minimum is $695.

The deadline to put in a bid is by Jan. 8.

There are catalogues of the properties and bid forms at the Alexander County office. You can also click here to visit them online.
