PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

The Paducah Police Department has arrested a Kentucky man on an assault charge and for having outstanding warrants out of McCracken County and Daviess County.

Virgil A. Sosh, 48, of Owensboro, was arrested after he assaulted his girlfriend, Christy Michels, 41, of Paducah, at a local motel.

Michels called the police and told officers her and Sosh had gotten into an argument when he began hitting her.

Michels fled the room and started downstairs when Sosh hit her in the head with the luggage stand from the motel room. She fell down the stairs and ran again, knocking on doors and asking other occupants to call the police.

Officers arrived and arrested Sosh.

During a police interview, he admitted to Det. Beau Green that he had assaulted Michels.

He was then booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.

He has been charged with second-degree assault and for having outstanding warrants charging him with 29 counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument, nine counts of failing to appear in court and one count of failing to comply with pre-trial release.

Michels was taken to Baptist Health Paducah for treatment.
