Diana Shinn and her twin sons weren't sure they'd have much of a Christmas this year after they lost everything in a fire, Friday, Dec. 18.

"Chaos, total disaster," Shinn recalled from the night of the fire.

Neither Shinn or her boys were at home when flames broke out from their East Prairie house.

The flames did claim the family dog.

"I thank the Lord it wasn't my kids," Shinn said.

The family was safe but left with nothing.

That is until the East Prairie community stepped in.

"I've been blessed," Shinn said.

Neighbors brought clothes, friends brought them food and family gave them a place to stay.

On Sunday, East Prairie police took the twins shopping to pick out presents.

The boys made sure everyone got something, buying their mom a bouquet of Christmas poinsettias.

Whether from strangers or friends, help came from all around.

"Love, support, understanding. I didn't know that there was that many people in this community [that cared],” Shinn said. “It's heartwarming."

In the season of giving, Shinn and her boys will be able to celebrate thanks to the kindness of others.

"They just don't know what they have done,” Shinn said. “Just greatly blessed us."

No word yet on the cause of the fire.
