2 in custody after trying to steal dog

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

According to Cape Girardeau police, two teenagers are in custody after trying to steal a dog in the area of Good Hope Street and Benton Street in Cape Girardeau around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20 .

When one woman went outside get her dog, she realized it wasn't there. She then saw two people walking down the street with what looked like her dog.

Officers said the woman confronted the two people, telling them they had her dog and to give it back.

She ended up calling for the dog and that's when the dog came running back to her.

Cape Girardeau Police arrived on scene to investigate and found the two suspects.

Police ended up arresting an 18-year-old and taking a 15-year-old juvenile into custody.

Both are expected to face charges in the attempted animal theft, according to Cape Girardeau Police.
