BONNE TERRE, MO (KFVS) -

James Koberman of Bonne Terre was at the Saint Francois County Courthouse where he was convicted of two charges on Friday, Dec. 18.

Koberman was convicted of second-degree murder and a distribution charge in a case in which his son died in 2014.

Koberman was charged after he gave his son heroin in July of 2014, causing him to overdose.

According to a 2014 KDSK article, authorities originally reported that Koberman shared half of a gram of heroin he bought with his son.

Authorities said Koberman refused to call for help when his son began to overdose.

He allegedly attempted CPR, but refused to call 911. He even stopped the teenager's girlfriend from calling because he did not want to get in trouble.

After Koberman went to work the next day, someone finally called, but the son was already dead.

Koberman is being held in the Saint Francois County Jail.
