1 in custody after fire destroys an East Prairie family's home

EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) -

The East Prairie Fire Department is reporting that it received a call about a house fire just after 10 p.m on Friday, Dec. 18.

Crews were called to 330 North Street, and when they arrived on the scene the home already fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters attacked the fire quickly and were able to save three dogs. However, one dog did perish in the fire.

Nobody at the home was injured.

Firefighters remained on the scene putting the fire out and investigating the incident until after 5 a.m. Saturday morning.

East Prairie Fire Chief Kyle Hutcheson said the fire marshal was called to the scene and the case is being investigated as arson.

East Prairie Police Department Captain Joleda Douglas said there is one person in custody at this time.

The home is a total loss.

The case remains under investigation.
