Thayer FD, Red Cross to install home smoke alarms

THAYER, MO (KFVS) -

The Thayer Volunteer Fire Department and American Red Cross will install home smoke alarms on Saturday, December 19.

This is in the rural community where a recent fire claimed the lives of three children and injured eight others.

The Red Cross in Springfield is providing the smoke alarms and will work with firefighters starting at 9 a.m.

The campaign is part of a plan to install smoke alarms in every home in Thayer, a town of 2,200, and also in Oregon County and the surrounding area.

Nationally, seven people on average die every day from a home fire. A person may have as little as two minutes to escape a burning home before it's too late to get out.
