Jackson PD collect money, toys for children

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) -

Police in Jackson, Missouri collected toys and money to help make Christmas special for children who might not have had a great holiday.

Police department employees bought enough toys for more than 200 children in the city's school district.

They were able to do so because businesses and people donated more than $12,000 to the toy drive.

Officers gave out the toys on Friday, Dec. 18.

A communications officer said it's well-worth the time and effort.

"Unfortunately, we don't always get to deal with the public on a good note, so this is one way that we can get to meet everyone in our community, give back to the community and especially make sure all the kids have a good Christmas, because it's about the kids in the end," said Rachel Coleman with the Jackson Police Department. "It's not about the parents, it's not about anything bad in the world. It's about making sure they have a smile on their face."

This is the 15th year for the toy drive.
