Early Christmas gift to CHS-PAWS

Students from the Caruthersville High School Art Club, and employees from First State Band and Trust, brought an early Christmas gift to CHS-PAWS.

The Art club hosted a Christmas project to supply much needed items, food and toys to the shelter animals.

First State Bank and Trust also held a drive for the shelter.

"This was a great gift to the shelter," Karol Wilcox, the shelter president, said. "We were overwhelmed by the amount of items collected and it will certainly help the animals have a better holiday."

Wilcox said that winter is the hardest time of the year for the shelter.

"We see more animals in need this time of year," Wilcox said. "Animals are frequently dumped around the area and some people run into financial situations, and we extend a 'helping hand.'"

Wilcox said drives and donations keep the non-profit, no-kill shelter running.

"We have always said it takes a community to save the animals and we are blessed to receiver such kind donations," she said.

Wilcox said that the shelter has teamed up with PETCO in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Pictures of the animals are displayed in the store and PETCO is collecting items through the holiday season for the shelter animals.

"We are grateful for our relationship with PETCO," she said. "We have been working with them for many years and they have been very good to us."

CHS-PAWS is a 501c3 non-profit no-kill animal shelter located in Hayti, MO. Donations can be made by mailing a check to P.O. Box 525, Hayti, MO 63851, or securely by using PayPal at cvhumsoc@hotmail.com. All donations are tax deductible.
