MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

A Paducah, Kentucky woman is accused of attempted murder of an 80-year-old man on Thursday, December 17.

Elizabeth Cedeno, 48, was charged with attempted murder, second degree burglary, tampering with physical evidence, first degree possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, deputies were dispatched to a home in the 1000 block of Husbands Road at around 12:27 a.m. on Thursday for a report of an assault.

Deputies say someone had illegally entered the home and demanded money. They say the victim told the suspect that he didn't have any money and ordered the suspect to leave.

The suspect allegedly began strangling the victim with a cord and hit him multiple times in the face and body.

The victim, fearing for his life, gave the suspect his wallet. Deputies say the suspect then ran away.

The suspect was identified as 48-year-old Elizabeth Cedeno.

The 80-year-old victim was taken to an area hospital for injuries from the attack. Deputies say he is currently in stable condition.

Detectives continued processing the scene and looked for Cedeno throughout the night for questioning.

At around 6 a.m., deputies say they were told the suspect was at the hospital asking about the victim's condition.

Cedeno was found and taken to the sheriff's department where she was interviewed.

According to deputies, Cedeno admitted in the interview that she had a past friendship with the victim, but had not been to his home in several weeks. She said she was told not to be on the property.

Cedeno also allegedly admitted to having a crack cocaine addiction and that she went to the victim's home to get money.

After arriving at the home, she allegedly broke into the back door and confronted the victim, who was in bed asleep, for money. When he refused and told her to leave, she said she became angry.

She allegedly made a noose and strangled the victim with a phone cord and allegedly punched him in the head and face until he gave her his wallet.

According to deputes, Cedeno cooperated with detectives and helped them find the discarded wallet in a culvert in the 1300 block of Husbands Road.

She allegedly admitted to taking money from the wallet for the purpose of feeding her crack cocaine addiction.

Just before her interview, deputies say they saw Cedeno try to conceal something. They say she allegedly had a crack cocaine smoking pipe that contained cocaine residue.

Cedeno was booked in the McCracken County Regional Jail.
