St. Louis Cardinals catcher Molina has 2nd thumb surgery

ST. LOUIS (KFVS) -

St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina had a second thumb surgery Tuesday that will keep him out for most of Spring Training.

Molina, 33, will be in a cast for four to five weeks, according to an article by MLB.com on the St. Louis Cardinals website.

The team hopes the eight-time Gold Glove winner will be ready in time for Opening Day.

He tore the ligament on Sept. 20 while playing in a game against the Chicago Cubs. He first had surgery on Oct. 15.

Jenifer Langosch, a writer for MLB.com, reports Molina had to have a second thumb ligament surgery because the first one did not take.
