Pemiscot Co. police arrest suspect after traffic pursuit

PEMISCOT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

The Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department is reporting it received a call in reference to a stolen truck at 401 Centre Street, Cooter, Missouri at 5:41 a.m Monday, Dec. 16.

The owner told police that he started his truck and went back inside his house for a few minutes.

When he went back outside, the truck was gone.

The police said they received another call from the owner at 10: 41 a.m., in which he told police that he had left his cell phone in the truck and his phone's carrier was pinging near Portageville in New Madrid County.

New Madrid County deputies were then dispatched and Pemiscot County Deputy Lieutenant Dustin Crawford soon saw the truck on I-55 at the 24 mile marker driving north bound.

Crawford conducted a Felony Stop and AS he was approaching the driver's door. Before he reached the truck, the driver took off again North Bound.

A traffic pursuit began, involving several Pemiscot County Deputies and other local officers. The pursuit lead throughout the county until the truck ran out of gas on Pemiscot County Road 456. The driver, identified as Brian Heathcock, 26, of Steele, Missouri, then jumped from the truck and ran into field.

Deputy Tony Dale started chasing him and apprehended him in the field and took him into custody.

Heathcock then told deputies that he had swallowed approximately six grams of Methamphetamine after the chase.

He was then taken and admitted to Pemiscot County Hospital in Hayti.

Through the preliminary investigation, police determined that Heathcock had an outstanding warrant for out of Pemiscot County on charges of receiving stolen property and failure to appear in court.

Heathcock was arrested today on the warrant and the following charges of tampering and stealing a motor vehicle and attempted assault on a law enforcement officer resisting arrest by fleeing, all of which are felonies.

The truck was recovered and returned to the owner.
