Traffic moving again on I-64 near Mt. Vernon, IL after semi crash

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) -

Interstate 64 near Mount Vernon has reopened after a semi crash on Wednesday.

It happened near the 92 mile marker of Interstate 57 where I-57 and I-64 interchange.

Illinois State Police Trooper Joey Watson said a semi was traveling northbound on I-57 when when it went over a guardrail.

The semi continued down an embankment, crashing through another guardrail, eventually coming to rest in eastbound lanes of I-64.

The driver, James R. Patton, 57, of Watertown, Tenn. was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The Illinois State Police, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Dept., Mt. Vernon Fire Dept. and the Jefferson County Rural Fire Protection District all responded to the scene.
