Grab the umbrella - First Alert Forecast shows rain passing over Heartland this AM

It is Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2015.

First Alert Weather Outlook:

You’ll need an umbrella or a raincoat as you head out this morning. A band of showers will be passing over the Heartland early, but will clear out later today opening up to a nice sunny Wednesday. First Alert: colder temps are on their way for the rest of the week.

Making Headlines:

Traffic Alert: The Southeast Missouri State Department of Public Safety says someone put what appears to be detergent in one of the campus fountains located near the intersection of Broadway and Henderson Ave. in Cape Girardeau. Piles of bubbles could cause for a slippery drive.

Behind bars: A woman is in custody for child abuse after East Prairie Police said she allegedly whipped her son with a belt multiple times. The boy is recovering, but police say, "...  the child will spend a lifetime dealing with the traumatic emotional aftermath."

Back to school: Class will resume in Los Angeles today after the LA school district says hundreds of schools closed on Tuesday after an email threat. According to Rep. Adam Schiff, the threat appears to be a hoax or something designed to disrupt school districts in large cities.

Under investigation: A medical helicopter crashed late Tuesday night in "rugged terrain" east of Phoenix, killing two of the three people aboard. 

Gone wrong: Families in southern Illinois say they received photo collages by accident and are now trying to find who they belong to in time for Christmas. Turns out though, this isn’t the first package mix-up in the area.
