KENNETT, MO (KFVS) -

Fifth-graders at South Elementary School in Kennett are spreading the Christmas cheer through song and dance.

It's all part of this year's Christmas musical called "Shaping Up Santa."

Students along with parents and community members watched with lots of smiles and laughs as Mrs. Clause and the other characters try to get Jolly Ole Saint Nick to shed a few pounds.

Principal Kim Morgan says the students and teachers put in a lot of work for the play and it's a lot of fun, too.

"It'll be a great performance and I think they learn a lot from it. They sing solos and some of them sing duets, some of them two or three together, and some of them the whole group will be involved in the singing,” Morgan said. “We have an amazing teacher, Ms. Linda Collins, always puts the play together and she puts in a lot of time and effort along with all our classroom teachers. It takes the work of everyone to get them ready."

The funny and clever storyline says Santa got stuck in a chimney last year, that's why he's trying to get fit.

To find out if he reached that goal, you catch the play Thursday night at 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
