Charleston man arrested for attempted rape, burglary

CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) -

A Charleston man is behind bars, accused of breaking into a woman’s house and trying to rape her.

According to the Charleston Department of Public Safety, officers were called to a home on West Ashby street just before 1 a.m. Tuesday morning for a report of a home invasion.

The victim told officers that a man got into the house and tried to rape her.

She told police the man ran away, but the victim was able to give officers a description of her attacker.

A short time later, an officer found a man matching the description near the home.

28-year-old Jeremy Rigney faces charges of 1st degree burglary, 1st degree attempted rape, 1st degree elder abuse, and felonious restraint.

He’s being held in the Mississippi County jail on $500,000 cash only bond.
