The Murphysboro Police Department responded to a report of a suspect in a home with a flashlight on Monday, Dec. 14 at 5:27 p.m.
When officers arrived on the scene, they noticed the flashlight in the home turn off.
After they approached the home, police were able to see an individual lying in the floor, trying to hide.
The officers then entered the home and arrested Garrett Wes Peterman, 22, of Murphysboro.
When the homeowners arrived, they confirmed that Peterman was in fact not allowed in the home or on the property, and when Peterman was searched, property of the owners was found on him.
Peterman was taken to the Jackson County Jail and charged with residential burglary.
Peterman had pled guilty on Nov. 17 to a Class 4 felony and was out on bond awaiting sentencing.
