SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

The Sikeston Department of Public Safety arrested Ricki Lewis, Jr. after he allegedly led police on a chase in Sikeston, Missouri on Sunday night, December 13.

According to Sikeston Department of Public Safety Captain Jim McMillen, Lewis' vehicle was pulling out from the Chinese buffet restaurant on South Main when McMillen saw it take off quickly without any headlights on.

McMillen said it was dark at that time, around 7:45 p.m. on Sunday.

He said the vehicle almost hit a small child as it was pulling out of the business.

An officer saw it and tried to pull the vehicle over.

According to McMillen, Lewis pulled over momentarily on South Main. He said as the officer was getting out to approach the car, Lewis allegedly took off.

McMillen said the chase started after that. It went west on Highway 60 toward FF.

About two miles down the road, Captain McMillen said the car ran off the road, flipped, rolled several times and the driver was able to get out. Lewis then ran away.

Officers chased him, lost him momentarily and then set up a perimeter. They called in the Missouri State Highway Patrol to help, along with the Scott County Sheriff's Department and the Morehouse Police Department.

According to McMillen, the Sikeston K-9 and the sheriff's office K-9 were able to track the Lewis down. He was then taken into custody.

Lewis is currently in custody on charges of resisting arrest and creating a substantial risk of serious injury or death to any person, which is a Class D felony in Missouri.
