Southeast Missouri State to consider new tuition rates for online degrees

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Southeast Missouri State University is considering new ways to attract more employers and working adults to its online degree program.

The Board of Regents will look at how students are charged during its meeting on Dec. 15.

The committee will take up a motion to create a single tuition rate for students enrolled in online only degree programs regardless of residency.

The change in cost would go up slightly.

Undergraduate courses would cost $265 per credit hour, an increase of $13.

For graduate courses, the cost would equal $325 per credit hour, an increase of $9.

In the past, students were charged a separate general fee and online fee per credit hour, which according to the university may provide recruiting challenges.

According to the university, the change would decrease the out-of-pocket expense to the student if their employer offers a program to reimburse an employee's educational expenses.

Additionally, the Regents will consider reducing the RN and BSN program fee from $100 per credit hour to $20 per credit hour, effective Fall 2016.

The university says the proposed change would bring the RN and BSN program fee in line with the university's other program fees.
