TRIGG COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

An inspector was called out after a barge scraped a portion of the US 68 Lake Barkley Bridge at Canton in Trigg County on Sunday.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the Coast Guard was notified around 6:45 p.m. that the Motor Vessel Jinx T. Smith scraped the left descending pier on the bridge. It caused a dent in the port lead barge.

At the time, the tow boat was pushing four empty fertilizer barges.

The KYTC reports the Coast Guard did not close the bridge to traffic because of the minor nature of the scrape.

An inspector was on scene to do a safety check on the bridge structure.

No word yet on what that inspection showed.

The bridge is located at US 68 mile point 8.596 in Trigg County and serves as the eastern entrance to Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area.

On an average day the bridge carries about 3,800 vehicles.
