CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

Veterans studying at area colleges will get the chance to sign up for several fun trips throughout the  2016 spring semester

The Veteran Adventures program is a collaboration between the Touch of Nature Environmental Center and Veterans Services of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. The program will offer area veterans studying at SIU and other area universities the chance to go on a variety of trips, including canoeing, backpacking and mountaineering.

Prices vary by trip, but cover all expenses, including food, lodging and transportation. The price can be lowered, however, depending on several factors, including scholarships and donations.

The program begins in mid-January with a trip to Florida Everglades National Park and concludes in May with a six-day adventure at Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area in Tennessee, with many other trips scheduled in between.

Those interested in registering for the program are encouraged to do so early, as deadlines fall on the week before each trip.

You can sign up and find more information about the program by calling Touch of Nature Environmental Center at 618-453-1121, emailing sbrady417@gmail.com or visiting www.veteranadventures.siu.edu.

Those who wish to donate to the program in order to reduce the cost of each trip can do so by visiting www.siuf.org.
