Carbondale police helping Santa

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

The police department in Carbondale is helping Santa Claus for the 14th year in a row.

They will be hosting the annual Community Christmas Store.

It's a program that hopes to help local families give their kids a special Christmas. The program is open to families with kids from 1 to 10 years of age who don't get services from another agency.

Basically, parents sign up for the program and then they can shop for toys with discounted prices at the Carbondale Police Department. Parents can pick up to three toys a child for only $2 an item.

The goal this year is to provide gifts for 100 children from 57 local families.

Police Department officials say the Christmas Store would not be possible if it weren't for the generosity of local businesses and local people who donated the toys.
