6 MO State Parks temporarily close for managed deer hunts

MISSOURI (KFVS) -

Some Missouri hunters will get a chance to hunt in six state parks as part of an effort to manage deer populations.

The hunts will happen on the December 12 and 13.

The parks will be closed during the managed hunt.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has already chosen the hunters that will get the chance to harvest a deer in the parks.

By law, state parks are established wildlife refuges, unless the deer population is too large, and the animals are damaging resources in the park.

The managed hunts will be at the following Missouri parks:

  • St. Joe State Park near Farmington
  • St. Francois State Park near Bonne Terre
  • Crowder State Park near Trenton
  • Cuivre River State Park near Troy
  • Pershing State Park near Brookfield
  • Pomme de Terre state Park near Pittsburg
