State union workers to rally in Marion, IL

MARION, IL (KFVS) -

Illinois government employees are rallying in Marion, Illinois to urge lawmakers to pass a state budget and sign a union contract.

Hundreds of workers and their families are expected to attend to rally against the Governor’s “Turnaround agenda.”

Speakers will include Glenn Poshard, State Rep. Brandon Phelps, ADSCME Council 31 executive director Roberta Lynch and Southern Illinois Central Labor council president Jason Woolard.

The event is taking place at the Marion Operating Engineers Local 318 Hall at 3310 Water Tower Road Wednesday beginning at 5:30 p.m.

This is one of seven statewide “Rallies for Fairness” in Illinois happening this week. Other events took place in Chicago, Rock Island and Joliet, each drawing crowds of more than 1,000 people. Rallies in Collinsville and Springfield will happen later this week.
