Cardinals trade Jon Jay to San Diego Padres

ST. LOUIS, MO (KFVS) -

It is a done deal. Cardinals outfielder Jon Jay will head to the San Diego Padres as a part of a trade for infielder Jedd Gyorko, the club announced on Tuesday.

The St. Louis Cardinals confirmed the via Twitter.

The Cardinals will also reportedly receive money for the deal to cover the $33 million owed to Gyorko through 2019, according to CBS Sports.

Jay was plagued with a variety of injuries during the 2015 season. He hit .210/.306/.257 in 245 plate appearances.

On the other hand, Gyorko hit .247/.297/.397 with 15 doubles and 16 home runs last season.

At this point, it appears to be a one-for-one deal.
