Paducah police respond to 5-vehicle collision

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

The Paducah Police Department responded to a five-vehicle wreck on Monday, Dec. 7 around 11 a.m near Interstate 24 in Paducah, Kentucky

Only one person is reported to be injured in the collision Monday morning.

The drivers include Makayla A. Winkler, 22, of Dix, Derrel L. Wegner, 76, of Paducah, Ronald D. Neste, 77, of Springbrook, Wisconsin, Christopher C. Anstett, 47, of Superior, Wisconsn and Rex W. Walker, 48, of Fort Payne, Alabama

Witnesses told Officer Nathan Young that traffic was stopped and slowing to stop because of a previous wreck on the westbound Ohio River bridge. They said a 2004 Ford pickup truck, driven by Winkler, hit the left rear of a truck driven by Wegner, then sideswiped a Ford Explorer driven by Neste.

Winkler’s truck then clipped the rear of a tanker trailer attached to a 2007 Kenworth tractor, and finally stopped after it hit the rear of a second tanker trailer, attached to a 2004 Freightliner.

Winkler was taken to Baptist Health Baptist for treatment. She told Officer Young that she remembered feeling faint, but remembered very little of the collisions

The interstate was shut down for less than an hour after the accident.
