December is National Impaired Driving Prevention Month

(KFVS) -

The holiday season is a time to celebrate with family and friends.

The Illinois State Police would like to remind everyone to be safe on the roads during this festive time.

December has been declared National Impaired Driving Prevention Month and from Dec. 16 through Jan. 1.

Illinois State Police will be participating in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign. This campaign seeks to raise awareness of the dangers associated with drunk and drugged driving.

There will be a focus on distracted driving. Distracted drivers often are mistaken for drunk/drugged drivers and driving while distracted can be just as dangerous as driving while under the influence.

The Illinois State Police reminds everyone to remain committed to preventing instances of drunk, drugged, and distracted driving by promoting responsible behavior. Designate a driver: call a taxi, friend, or family member for a ride; and avoid distractions while behind the wheel.

If we all work together to be responsible behind the wheel then it truly can be the merriest of holidays this year.
