MSHP: 2 people dead after Dunklin Co. car crash

DUNKLIN COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Two people are dead after a car crash in Dunklin County, Missouri on Saturday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened before 5:30 p.m. south of Malden on Highway 25.

John Abbott, 68, of Clarkton, was driving south when his vehicle went off the road and hit a tree.

Abbott was airlifted to a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee in critical condition.

Two passengers in the vehicle, Trevor Pruitt, 13, and Doug Pruitt, 50, both died from the crash. No one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt.

According to MSHP Cpl. Clark Parrott, Abbott is disabled and doesn't have any legs. He reportedly used crutches taped to the gas and brake pedals to help him drive his vehicle.

Parrott said Abbott probably did not have his vehicle compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The full report of the investigation will take approximately 30 to 45 days to complete.

Pending the investigation, Abbott could still face some traffic charges.
