CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Many families took advantage of an event designed to help create the perfect picture in Cape Girardeau on Saturday, Dec. 5.

At the House of Hope, hundreds came out to take part in getting their photos professionally taken.

The event is called Help Portrait and its aim is to help those less fortunate obtain a quality photograph of them or their loved ones.

Here's how it works. A person, either by themselves or with family or loved ones, comes in and gets ready to get their picture taken; their hair is cut, makeup applied and everything polished and "picture perfect" for what many say is a gift that keeps on giving.

Many people at the event said it's a gift that can keep one smiling for years.

One woman said she has never taken a family portrait with her and her kids.

Once she saw the finished product, she was elated.

"I love it!" Whitney Robinson said. "This is my best first picture ever. I wouldn't want to ask for anything other than this. Seriously."

Volunteers on hand took time out of their day to help pamper and help give these people the perfect portrait.

"When you can make someone feel good from the inside out, that's worth while," volunteer Beverly Delph said. "It's like a paycheck of the heart."

The pictures are framed and mantle-ready when delivered. It's a gift that many say is something that will never be able to be replaced.

"It's nice," Robinson said. "It's helping the people less fortunate that can't afford it. I just think this is a good thing. It's a real nice thing."
