CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) -
An Illinois man is facing felony drug distribution charges after a narcotics investigation by the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department.
The investigation began last week when officials received information that various drugs were being sold from a Charleston restaurant.
Based on that information, Sheriff Keith Moore placed the business under surveillance and deputies soon noticed several signs of illegal narcotics activity.
The break in the investigation came Thursday evening when deputies observed restaurant employee Jeremy Riggs, 32, of Cairo, Ill., exit the building to conduct a suspicious transaction in the restaurant parking lot.
Deputies confronted the parties and determined that Riggs had sold drugs to the other party.
Officials searched Riggs’ vehicle, which turned up additional drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Riggs was arrested and taken to the Mississippi County Detention Center.
He is charged with distribution of a controlled substance.
Riggs also faces one count of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
Riggs remains in the Mississippi County Detention Center with bond set at $50,000.
