This week in music: 1989

(KFVS) -

Let's step back in time and check out the music scene from 26 years ago.

These were the songs topping the Billboard Hot 100 for this week in 1989.

At number five was Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville with Don't Know Much.

Paula Abdul was in the number four spot with It's Just the Way That You Love Me, a single from her debut album Forever Your Girl.

In the number three spot was Blame It on the Rain by Milli Vanilli. A scandal in the coming months would derail the German duo's career.

Another Day in Paradise was at number two.  It was a protest song by Phil Collins which focused on the homeless.

And in the top spot was Billy Joel with We Didn't State the Fire. You remember it's lyrics featured rapid-fire references to more than 100 news headlines between 1949, the year Joel was born, and 1989.  It was also the Piano Man's final number one single.

Those are the songs being played on the radio this week in 1989.
