PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

A man is behind bars after the McCracken County Sheriff's Department says he allegedly stole money from the Best Western Inn in Paducah.

James A. Chancellor II, 36, was arrested on Dec. 1 after a theft of $500 was reported from the hotel.

On Nov. 25, security cameras captured a white male going behind the front desk and taking money from the cash drawer.

The suspect was later identified as Chancellor.

With the assistance of Paducah police, the McCracken County deputies took Chancellor into custody without incident.

Chancellor was charged with theft of taking over $500 but under $10,000, which is a class D felony.

The suspect has at least seven previous convictions for theft.

Chancellor is being held at the McCracken County Regional Jail on a $1,000 cash bond.
