Handgun training courses starting in spring at Rend Lake College

INA, IL (KFVS) -

Starting in the spring, Rend Lake College will be offering three new handgun training classes by popular demand.

The three courses, Basic, Low Light-Engagement and Advanced training will be open to anyone in southern Illinois.

The Basic Handgun Training course will be held at the Coal Mine Training Center in room 107A with five dates to pick from, April 2, April 23, June 16 and Aug. 27, each running from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Participants will learn the laws of civilians use of forces, types of handguns, ammunition and hands-on experiences on gripping, loading, unloading and firing.

The Low Light Engagement course will be at the Coal Mine Training Center in room 107A on March 5 from 2 to 10 p.m.

Participants will learn the importance of illumination and their use, flashlight weapon techniques, principles of lighting and the rules of range.

Illumination tools will need to be brought in for the Low Light-Engagement course.

Each class will be led by instructor Jeff Bullard, Detective Captain of the Mt. Vernon Police Department.

Students are welcome to retake courses for $30 per-person and $35 for the Advanced course.

Participants will need to bring ear and eye protection, a handgun, ammunition and a valid FOID card.

Location of the courses are subject to change based upon room availability.
