ILLINOIS (KFVS) -

The state of Illinois is considering going digital with their drivers licenses and have formed a committee to look into it.

The digital drivers license committee is in early stages of discussing how a digital Illinois driver license program would be implemented, according to Illinois Secretary of State spokesperson Dave Druker.

He said Iowa was the first state to spearhead the digital push and now Illinois hopes to follow suit.

“I think it’s probably going to happen at some point," Druker said.

However, Druker said there are still a lot of questions to be answered including: security of private information, how much it would cost, and how would police have access to such information.

Those are questions the committee is asking, he said.

Druker said the committee hopes to have a report to present to the Illinois General Assembly in the spring.
