This spring and summer Rend Lake College has set aside seven weekends to train the community and help them obtain a conceal and carry license.
Local business and organizations are also welcome to contact Rend Lake College to schedule private training.
The seven two-day concealed carry training courses are set for 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on the following weekends: Jan. 23-24, Feb. 20-21, March 19-20, April 16-17, May 14-15, June 25-26, and Aug. 20-21.
All classes will be held in the Coal Mine Training Center, Room 107A, on the Ina campus at the RLC Shooting Range.
For private training, RLC will work with each group's schedule to arrange the most convenient dates and times for the course.
Group rates will be available for reservations of eight students or more.
The first day of the class, attendees will learn about topics in firearm safety, principles of marksmanship, loading and unloading, safety and cleaning, state and federal laws relating to firearms and use of force from instructors Ron Meek, RLC Criminal Justice Associate Professor; and Jeff Bullard, Detective Captain of The Mt. Vernon Police Department.
Participants should bring their firearms to the second day of class with 100 rounds of ammunition to be inspected by the instructors.
To qualify for licensure, attendees will participate in a live fire qualification of 30 rounds at 5, 7, and 10 yards and must achieve 70 percent accuracy.
Also required for licensure is a valid FOID card and driver's license. the cost of the two-day course is $150 for Illinois residents and $250 for out of state attendees.
All participants must attend the entire 16 hours of training, no exceptions.
