Carrier Mills man hurt after driving into moving train

SALINE COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

A Carrier Mills man is recovering after his van hit a train.

It happened just before 4 Friday morning.

According to the Saline County Sheriff’s Department, 39-year-old Candaso Murphy hit the train as it was crossing Harco Road at Illinois Route 134 north, about 2 miles west of Galatia.

Investigators report Murphy’s van was dragged a few feet before it stopped.

Murphy was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Canadian National train Murphy hit was hauling coal. It took nearly 2 miles for the train to come to a stop.

No one on board the train was hurt.

Murphy was cited for failure to yield at a train crossing.
