Cape Girardeau police responded to an assault on Black Friday.
Officers say it started in the Walmart parking lot when a homeless man asked a shopper for money.
According to police, the man refused to give the homeless man any money. At that time, the man got belligerent and pulled a knife on the shopper.
Police report the shopper then punched the man in the face.
Officers made contact with the alleged suspect at the Shell gas station near the Cape Girardeau Walmart on Siemers Drive.
The suspect was transported to the police department and later released to the hospital for an existing medical condition.
No word yet on the extent of the victims injuries or the identity of the suspect.
However, police say charges are expected to be filed against the suspect.
